Stray dog: marriage enhancer or home wrecker? Sylvia---a romantic comedy by one of America's most popular playwrights (A.R. Gurney) opens June 15 at 8 p.m. at the High Springs Community Theatre and runs Friday and Saturday nights at 8 and Sunday afternoons at 2 through July 8. Sylvia is a stray dog (a Labrapoodle) played by a young woman (Sunny Ferrero) who is taken to the NYC apartment of Greg (played by Malcolm Sanford) and of Kate (played by Sally Kimberly). Greg and Sylvia are keen on giving Sylvia a permanent home while Kate is not. Into their triangle steps a series of outsiders (played by one actor Kurt Orwick) who help in the process of determining Sylvia's fate The struggle over whether to keep her or send her away takes audiences through both hilarious situations and very serious consequences of the kind suffered by pets of all sorts everywhere who are bought or "taken in" with the best of intentions---only to find themselves cast aside when their presence becomes inconvenient to their "owners." This show is a "must see" for both those who are lovers of dogs and those who are not. Sylvia's verbalized reactions to her treatment by human beings provide a deep lesson for pet owners to think of them not as humans but as those capable of feeling both the humor and the tragedy of different situations. Tickets for the show ($8-12) may be obtained at the Coffee Clutch in High Springs (386-454-7593); at The Framery in Lake City (386-754-2780); online, ; or (when available) at the door 30 minutes before each performance. The show is not recommended for children under 12. For further information please contact the director (Jerry Rose) at 352-378-8858.
